Most U.S. teachers believe technology helps facilitate learning, yet only 16% give their schools an “A” grade for implementing that technology. This is one finding from the Teachers’ Dream Classroom Survey sponsored by Edgenuity. 400 middle and high school teachers responded to the survey between March 14 and March 21, 2016.
While only 16% of teachers gave their school an “A” grade, it should be noted that 53% gave their school a “B” grade. Unfortunately the reported results didn’t provide a breakdown for every letter grade, but this means that only 31% of teachers gave their school less than a “B” grade for technology integration.
The survey asked teachers what are the three most important elements of achieving the dream classroom. Their responses:
- 61% of teachers say more time in the school day to plan, research resources, and collaborate with colleagues.
- 54% of teachers said new and different strategies to engage students, such as blended learning.
- 47% of teachers said more or better technology in the classroom

The survey also asked teachers about how they spend their time. The average was 10 hours spent on school-related work and activities with 33% of that time being spent on administrative tasks. When asked how they’d prefer to spend their time, here were the responses:
- 56% of teachers want to focus on helping struggling students
- 39% of teachers would prefer to spend time developing more creative lessons.
- 34% of teachers would rather be tailoring lessons to the needs of individual students.
